Port Shepstone Tamil Association empowers many lives
The Association celebrates 52 years of unselfishly serving the community.
Judging by the speeches delivered at the Port Shepstone Tamil Association’s 52nd annual general meeting last Wednesday, it is clear that the organisation has an outstanding record of providing spiritual and cultural assistance to the community of Port Shepstone. The AGM was attended by representatives from various religious bodies and local organisations.

Serving another term as chairman of the association, Dinah Naidoo saluted her dedicated members. “You must take credit for the initiative shown and achievements accomplished. Here at the Tamil Association, we strive for high quality performance, self- discipline and concern for the less fortunate,” explained Mrs Naidoo.
She pointed out that members work selflessly, keeping to the association’s motto, ‘Service to mankind is service to God.’ Mrs Naidoo reminded her team they volunteered to join this association. “It is a choice you have made and you must keep in your hearts the values which the association holds dear. Remain committed to doing something to make a lasting and positive change.”

Guest speaker Dr Dilly Morgan Naidoo said it was a great pleasure to be associated with this association as it celebrated 52 years of unselfishly serving the community. “The idea of unity of existence between people and individuals is the only basis upon which true ethical life is possible. We recognise the presence of cultures different from ours, but there is little interaction or communication among these cultures. Our challenge is how to create peace, hope, sustainability and justice in South Africa. Its is becoming a common practice that there is war between those that worship different Gods and those that practise different antagonistic traditions.”
Mr Naidoo reiterated that whatever leads us towards unity with God and all beings is good and whatever draws us away from this ideal of unity is evil.
At the closing of the AGM, gratitude was expressed to new Guru Padmanabhan Ganesan for the pious manner in the discharge of his duties. The Port Shepstone Tamil Association highlighted its various religious and cultural observances, which included conducting funerals and ceremonies, the grand Deepavali celebrations organised by the Hindu Cultural Federation, its many various fund-raising drives, and finally the ever-popular prayer services taking place in the temple.

The association expressed its appreciation to all business houses, members of the community, devotees and officials for their generous sponsorship and donations throughout the year.
The new executive committee comprises Dinah Naidoo (chairman), Preggy Kandasamy (first vice-chairman), Ronnie Naidoo (second vice-chairman), Radha Moodley (secretary), Sharmaine Pillay (assistant secretary), Reena Naicker (treasurer), Angie Pandaram (assistant treasurer) and Girlie Govender (PRO).
