In 2016, RNM spokesman Simon April said the municipality planned to track down the owners of the properties and take them to task.

To date, Margate residents say they are still greeted by the awful, ugly sight of some properties on 72 Marine Drive in Margate.

Residents want the authorities to do something about this building.

The properties are filled with tons of rubbish and have turned into dumping sites.

“The stench coming from those properties in unbearable. Why isn’t anything being done about them? Surely the authorities have a right to demolish them,” said an irate neighbour of the properties.

Residents have also complained about the illegal activities happening inside the properties.

Piles of rubbish are found on the property at 72 Marine Drive right next to the road near Margate.

“All the hookers and drug addicts are using those properties. It’s no longer safe to walk alone on the street,” the resident added.

Ray Nkonyeni Municipality has not responded to queries relating to these properties.
