The deputy mayor position had been left vacant following the death of then mayor Councillor Tolomane Mnyayiza in December 2016.

Shortly thereafter, deputy mayor Mondli Chiliza became Ugu mayor.

During the ceremony, Councillor Mthiyane said she was looking forward to serving the communities of Ugu and ensuring clean water was supplied through out the district.

Lindo Mzimela was sworn in to Ugu’s top 7 (Exco), and Dumile Ngubo was sworn in as a councillor.
