These were words shared by councillors from the DA, ANC and IFP at the municipality’s executive council meeting held on Tuesday.
During the awards, both RNM and its municipal manager, Max Mbili, scooped awards for the best-run municipality and the best municipal manager in KZN.
Following rigorous processes, and 53 entries from other municipalities, RNM and Mr Mbili were shortlisted by an independent panel of assessors and moderators based on the performance of the municipality.
This followed a thorough adjudication process which required both the MM and the municipality to present evidence on criteria used by the panel.
Criteria were based on the ‘Back to Basics’ programme, audit outcomes by the Auditor-General and the Service Delivery and Budget Implementation Plan (SDBIP).
IFP councillor Sifundo Ngwane said he had been very pleased by work and effort put in by all councillors in RNM and the RNM staff who had dedicated themselves to ensuring RNM secured the number one spot.
DA councillor Doug Rawlins shared similar sentiments and congratulated both mayor Cynthia Mqwebu and Mr Mbili.
RNM deputy mayor Ronnie Nair commended the MM for having had the right attitude towards tackling problems at RNM and for providing much needed solutions.
Mr Nair further said he believed Mr Mbili had taken the municipality to greater heights than where it had been when he arrived.
