Hibberdene Happenings: Food donations were most welcome
Reinhardt’s Place and Sacred Heart Children’s Home were the grateful recipients of the recent food collection for Mandela Day, organised by the Lions in conjunction with Pick n Pay.
ONE can never be too careful! This was demonstrated by a horrific incident early last week, when a woman and her dog were hijacked in their vehicle in the central business district.
Her husband had left the car for a few minutes while he entered a nearby shop and it was during this time that the carjacking took place.

The traumatised victim and her dog were dropped off some distance from the town centre, but the vehicle and its keys were still missing at the time of writing this column.
So be alert at all times – don’t put yourself at risk of enduring a similar or even more harrowing incident.
Interesting talk
Don’t miss John Kirk’s talk at the town hall this Saturday, August 4, from 3pm to approximately 4.30pm. John is no stranger to public speaking, having given several addresses during the years he lived in Eshowe.
The talk, entitled ‘The Christian Healing Stream’ is open to all interested persons, so please make an effort to attend.
Monthly breakfast
For fellowship, faith and fabulous food, make your way to the Methodist Church for the monthly men’s breakfast this Saturday, August 4, at 7am.
The cost is only R20 per person and men of all denominations are most welcome to attend. Better still, bring a friend or two with you.
Confirm your attendance by contacting either Debbie Fletcher at 039 6992948 or Louis Nortje at 039 6992610 before Thursday.
Thank you
Reinhardt’s Place and Sacred Heart Children’s Home were the grateful recipients of the recent food collection for Mandela Day, organised by the Lions in conjunction with Pick n Pay. Once again, all generous donors are thanked.
Poor excuses
The next eye clinic will be held on Wednesday, August 15, from noon onwards. Bookings may be made with your scribe at the supplied number or 073 1653961.
The long-awaited delivery of June’s glasses has not yet been effected – reason given is that postal workers in Gauteng are on strike.
As far as your scribe is aware, the strike ended the Friday before last, but to date no glasses have been delivered and the situation is becoming embarrassing.
Get well soon
Tom Kent is not very well at the moment while Ann Renfrew is slowly recovering from a shoulder injury. Please remember them both in your thoughts and prayers.
Three cheers
Birthday wishes for this week go to Willie Loots (August 1), John Howe and Klasie van Staden (2nd), Doug Henderson (5th) and Lizelle Loubser, Ollie Coetzer, Dries Smith and Johan Steyn (7th).
Welcome Aarav
Lastly, congratulations to colleagues Sharlene and Sugan Naidoo on the birth of their baby boy Aarav last Tuesday (July 24), brother to Aaron.
Don’t forget to keep Lizzie busy with all things Hibberdene.
