Tweni Talk: Community events raise much-needed funds

The Tweni Community/Crime Watch fund-raiser held last Saturday at Royston Hall was a wonderful success.

GOOD news this week! The Tweni Community/Crime Watch fund-raiser held last Saturday at Royston Hall was a wonderful success.

There were lots of delicious treats, Ria Hackland entertained with her guitar and singing and Lane Allan was a fantastic master of ceremonies – very entertaining.

Anita Hulley scooped the biscuit jar prize by guessing the correct number of biscuits inside. Special thanks to Ria, Anita and Kelvin Hulley, Lane and Kelly Allan, Sarah Lord, Arthur Edwards, Debbie Daniels, Frazer Smith, Julie Solomon, Rochelle Lombard, Karen Bester, Ronelle Breytenbach, Renee Coull and Mandie Stander.

On the mend

Another bit of wonderful news is that Dr Marcel Schutgens is physically much stronger and will be returning home this week. Glenda is hoping that familiar surroundings will be therapeutic and assist with Marcel regaining his memory.

Welcome news

Umtentweni breathed a sigh of relief last Sunday when missing man André Olivier was found alive. When he was reported missing on Wednesday after disappearing late last Tuesday evening, SAPS, security companies, law enforcement and civilians were all asked to be on the lookout for him and his missing vehicle.

Good job

The Tweni Beach stairs are under construction and it looks amazing – thanks to all involved.

Well done

Preston Nichols of Southport and Richie Swanepoel of Tweni placed in the KZN Development Championships section for karate.

Preston placed second place for kumite and Richie came third. Well done guys.

The Muddy Boots Market this Sunday (August 5) will be bigger and better than ever and not to be missed. There will be delicious pancakes, jaffles, boerewors rolls, hamburgers, prego rolls and baked goods, fresh produce, face painting, handmade leather belts, educational toys, jewellery, clothing, dvds, cds, records, tools, books, pot plant holders, clocks, woodwork, AMC cookware, 1/8 scale dioramas, electric appliances, white elephant stalls and crocheted goods on sale – just to name a few.

RIP Rusty

The community was saddened by the news that Rusty Schutte died on July 26 at Addington Hospital after a long illness. Sincere condolences to Pam Schutte and family. There will be no service.

Get well soon

Rumour has it that Craig Curnow is spending some time in a Durban hospital. Get well soon Craig, you are sorely missed on the coast by family and friends.

Birthdays

Huge congratulations to ‘young’ Dave Ledward who turned 80 on Monday (July 30) and happy birthday to Inika Curnow (August 1) and Chris Polinski and Grant Wood (2nd).
