Pancho Devta Pooja celebrated at Shree Raam Narayan Temple

Devotees pray to achieve happiness, progress and peace.

Devotees turned up in their numbers to witness the Pancho Devta Pooja, one of the most popular prayers in Hindu communities, at the Shree Raam Narayan Temple Society in Marburg last Sunday. It denotes the worship of five Gods: Vishnu, Shiva, Ganesha, Shakti and Surya. Guest speaker was trustee of the temple, Gunpath Soubram Singh.

Mr Singh said that in order to attain happiness, progress and peace in life, devotees perform this prayer with complete devotion. “On the basis of Shastras, these five Gods must be worshipped as it keeps you away from all sufferings and remorse.”

He pointed out that this prayer not only gives peace and contentment, but also engenders good thoughts in the mind. “In addition to this, it provides divine energy in the body. Devotees should execute the prayer of these five deities with strict rituals and customs in order to achieve name, fame and immortality in life.”

The temple also celebrated 22 years of existence. Locals enjoyed a session of bhajans and kirtans by Vikesh Monnilall from Durban. Lunch was served. The officiating priest was Pundit Aview Misra.
