UPDATE: Holidaymakers involved in yesterday’s horror crash

Oneperson was airlifted to a Durban hospital, and five others, including an 18-month-old toddler and a three-year-old child, were taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Women’s Day yesterday (August 9) was marred by a fatal accident which occurred near the Umtentweni Caltex Garage on the R102.

Police spokesman Captain Petros Mpinga said a truck, a sedan collided and a bus were involved in the accident.

He said the occupants of the sedan were reportedly from Klerksdorp, on holiday on the South Coast, and were on their way to Durban. The driver is believed to have keen killed on impact.

A tragic accident on the R102, near the Caltex garage in Umtentweni earlier this morning has claimed the life of a man.

Emergency services responded to the collision which involved a bus, truck and a light motor vehicle.

Rob Mckenzie, spokesman for KwaZulu-Natal Emergency Services, said that two people were critically injured, two suffered serious injuries and another six  sustained minor injuries.

“Ten people were transported to hospital. Seventeen other people on the bus were not injured,” he confirmed

Med-Evac’s air ambulance was called to airlift the critically injured patient to hospital.

Shawn Herbst, media liaison officer for Netcare 911, said Ray Nkonyeni Municipality’s Fire and Rescue Services used the Jaws of Life to free one person from the light motor vehicle.
