Messages posted on a local WhatsApp group stated that the missing child had been spotted at the Port Shepstone taxi rank last Friday, in the company of ‘a coloured man’, and urged people to be on the lookout for the boy.
The Herald contacted the police to verify this information.
Police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Thulani Zwane said police had made inquiries at and around the Port Shepstone taxi rank, interviewing a trolley pusher and the car guards, but had received no concrete information regarding the missing child.
Video footage later emerged showing the youngster at an eatery, just metres away from his school.
A man reportedly seen with Miguel at the restaurant has since been arrested, but claims he was not involved in the boy’s disappearance.
The family has offered a R50 000 reward, no questions asked, for Miguel’s safe return.
