South Coast Herald Longest Drive Challenge: Development golfers have not been forgotten

Ten promising young golfers from the Margate Development Centre will be attending.

Because Caxton cares, our up-and-coming golfing stars from the Ray Nkonyeni Municipality’s ‘Mayor’s Academy’ have not been forgotten at this Sunday’s (August 26) inaugural South Coast Herald Longest Drive Challenge and 10 promising youngsters will be attending.

The youngsters will each receive a goodie bag, and in a very generous gesture, the Academy will be given some 300 Bridgestone Tour B XS golf balls, donated by Bridgestone specially for this event.

Bridgestone Golf South Africa  aims to introduce superior quality golf balls into the market at competitive prices. It strives to keep up with current market trends and wants South Africans to have the same opportunities as other countries when it comes to product offerings. A wide variety of Bridgestone golf balls is available in the pro shop.

All entrants and visitors are invited  to bring along any clubs or balls they no longer use for donation to the South Coast branch of the South African Golf Development Board.

Golf training is offered every Saturday from 8am to 11am, and usually attracts around 30 junior players, aged between seven and 15 years. The majority are from previously disadvantaged backgrounds, and some 30 percent are girls.

The Academy, situated at Margate Country Club, is fully controlled by the Mayoral Trust, which ensures that the Academy is run and managed properly and helps with fund-raising activities such golf days and golf clinics.
