Rob Lyle and Pat Brand, both being keen bowlers at Port Edward Bowling Club, celebrated their union with the entire bowling club, family and close friends. About 90 guests enjoyed the informal service officiated by Barry Payn, and included a women’s retinue of 14 who all followed the bride down the aisle, stepping out to ‘Do the Locomotion’.

A scrumptious tea and dinner followed with much dancing and hilarity. Pat’s two children and four grandchildren came from Durban and Rob’s four children travelled from Johannesburg, Middelburg, UK and Italy. They plan to move to Banners Rest Village at the end of September.

Shocking news

The Port Edward community has been shocked by the recent violent attack on two elderly residents.

In the early hours of Wednesday morning last week, the couple was awoken by two intruders standing in their bedroom.

They demanded guns, money and jewellery and wanted keys to the safe. Both were armed. One intruder attacked the man with a rock and then stabbed him and the other tied the woman up and raped her.

Both were taken to hospital and the man was later transferred to  King Edward hospital in Durban where he will undergo surgery for a broken jaw and fractured skull.

He also suffered two stab wounds in his leg. The woman, although severely traumatised, was thankfully unhurt. She has been amazed and grateful for all the support she has received.

Stolen signs

The dynamic Trafalgar Ratepayers’ Association committee works hard to uplift their pretty, treed town.

The Trafalgar Ratepayers’ Association works hard to beautify the town and last week two new signs were both stolen within 24 hours. Committee member Colin Taylor (right) and his assistant Kish Khulu with one of the signs that went missing.

They painted the lifesavers’ hut at the beach; planted beautiful indigenous gardens; added two new speed bumps and will soon start repainting street names and fire hydrants.

Last Thursday (16th) poles were planted for two new signs and on Friday the lovely ‘buck’ speed signs were attached. By Saturday morning somebody had stolen the signs. Such acts of vandalism and theft are very disheartening and a disgrace.

Malicious act

The Sunshine Golf Tour, hosted by the Wild Coast Sun Hotel and Casino Resort’s golf course, was seriously disrupted when vandals set about digging up and destroying a number of the manicured greens on the course last Saturday night, namely the twelfth and seventeenth holes.

The tournament went ahead on Monday, but could only use the first nine holes. There were no witnesses and it is unclear who was responsible and what the motive was.

‘Walk Trafalgar’

Diarise Saturday, September 22 when the Trafalgar Conservancy invites everyone to ‘walk Trafalgar’ and enjoy the beauty and nature of the town. The cost is R20 to take part. Meet at the Trafalgar main beach at 8.30am. Hamburgers will be on sale after the walk. For further information contact Tracy at 071 3490718.
