High tea raises funds for feisty Latisha

She has fought from the start with a fierce heart.

Sa Re Ga Ma Music Academy, under the banner of Port Shepstone Hindu Youth Society, hosted a Family Fun Tea in support of Latisha Sadapal of Marburg who was diagnosed with a rare type of stomach cancer at the age of 24.

Latisha has fought from the start with a fierce heart. She has completed her chemo cycle and had an operation to remove her entire stomach. Since the operation she has had several complications. The tea party was held at Marburg Secondary hall last Saturday.

Music band San Productions of Durban provided great entertainment.

Vernon Govender of the Sa Re Ga Ma Music Academy told the Herald that when a friend or family member is diagnosed with cancer, questions frequently arise, ‘What should I say? What should I do? How should I respond?’

“Well, we responded, with this tea party, to bring joy into Latisha’s life. While feelings of sadness are part of the experience, the party bolstered feelings of personal commitment and presence, making a difference in her life.

In the minds of my music students and myself, making contributions to the quality of someone else’s life is the greatest gift that we give to others and, in the process, to ourselves.” A whopping  R112 000 was raised by the event.
