Sheppie Snippets: Watch Shashika Mooruth live in concert

The show will be staged at the Port Shepstone Civic Centre this Saturday.

Live in concert

Don’t miss out on internationally acclaimed artist, Shashika Mooruth, live in concert at Port Shepstone Civic Centre this Saturday, September 1 at 7pm.

Tickets cost R120 and R150 reserved. Local music group, Sa Re Ga Ma Music Academy will also be part of this once in a lifetime concert. Other artists include Tansen Nepaul, Oumesh Inderparsad, Vidhi Lutchman, Vishen Kemraj and compere Shrish V Hargoon.

The Sa Re Ga Ma Music Academy together with the Prema Jyothi Seva Sungum held a family tea in support of Latisha Sadapal who was diagnosed with a rare type of stomach cancer at the age of 24. A whopping sum of R112 780 was raised and handed to Latisha’s family last week.

Tickets are available at Computicket and at the venue on the day. A percentage of the proceeds will go towards the Latisha Sadapal fund.

The Melody Makers

Mbango Melody Makers are hosting ‘The Fabulous ’60s Revival’ music show at the Mbango Association hall with a matinee this Thursday, August 30 at 2.30pm. Cost is R45. A supper theatre show will be held this Friday, August 31 at 6.30pm. Bring your own food. Tickets cost R45. A bar will be open. Booking through Michele Marbler at 039 6825251.

Comedy show

The Umbango Sri Siva Soobramaniar Alayam will host a Dingaling Production, ‘Licence to Thrill’ at the Port Shepstone Civic Centre this Friday, August 31 at 8pm. Tickets cost R100 per person. No under-16s are allowed. For further information contact Jason at 084 2508875 or Mickesh at 072 2024242.

Colourful blooms

South Coast Floral Art Club is to host a ‘Flowers Through the Mall’ display. The Southcoast Mall will be transformed into an explosion of flowery spring colour from this Saturday, September 1 to September 3. For further information contact Saroj at 071 6828781.

Githa week

The Shree Raam Narayan Temple Society is observing Gita Week which started on Monday this week and will continue to September 2. On September 3, Sri Krishna Janmashtami will be observed.

Recitation and scriptural discourses on the Bhagwad Gita commenced on the first day. Services take place from 6.30pm to 7.30pm daily during Gita Week.

Sri Krishna Janmastami on Monday, September 3 is from 6.30pm to midnight.

Prayer

The Shree Hanuman Sanathan Dharma Sabha Mandir is observing Githa Week until September 2. Weekday prayers held from 6pm and weekends from 11.30am. Hawan, bhajans, Bhagvath Gita recitals will take place daily. Sri Krishna Janmashtami will be observed on Monday, September 3 from 6pm until midnight. Golf day

The Maha Vishnu Temple together with the Cancer Association of South Africa is hosting its annual golf day at the Port Shepstone Country Club this Sunday, September 2. Tee-off time is at 8.30am. Plenty of prizes are to be won. Part of the proceeds will be donated to the Cancer Association. There will be a candle lighting ceremony at 6pm to honour all those who have lost their fight, not forgetting those that are still fighting cancer. Fun run/walk

Bread of Heaven’s annual fun walk/run takes place next Saturday, September 8 at Port Shepstone Senior Primary School grounds. Bread of Heaven is a non-profit volunteer organisation that supplies freshly prepared lunch packages to over a thousand school pupils and other welfare organisations in the Port Shepstone area on a daily basis. There will be a 10km and 5km fun walk/run. The 10km event starts at 7am the 5km at 7.30am. There will also be a mum’s and toddlers’ race. The public can look forward to an obstacle course, jumping castles, a photo booth and much more. For more information contact Gordon at 073 5104453.

Brunch

The Port Shepstone Rotary Anns are hosting a champagne brunch at Umthunzi Hotel and Conference in Umtentweni next Saturday, September 8 from 9am. Guest speaker is South Coast Herald’s editor Colleen Haggard. Tickets cost R180 per person. For further information contact Joan at 079 1497479.
