Fashion with a purpose at Wild Coast Sun
It was a social gathering which allowed fashion lovers to come together.
Style enthusiasts, a heady mix of fashionable and colourful garments and several SABC television personalities set the scene at the annual Indwangu Fashion Extravaganza at the Wild Coast Sun Hotel and Casino Resort last Saturday. Guests got the chance to socialise and listen to some deep, soulful house tunes but, most importantly of all, witness the upcoming fashion trends from designers who volunteered to be part of the show. It came as no surprise that the social side of things ended up being as awesome as the fashion show itself.
Mawande Genu, public relations and promotions coordinator at the Wild Coast Sun Hotel and Casino Resort told the Herald that the extravaganza, in partnership with the Walter Sisulu University, came about due to the love of fashion and a desire to provide up and coming designers with much needed exposure.
“Although the order of the event was fashion, that’s not all the organisers hoped to achieve. Our mission was to raise donations of sanitary pads or money to buy the pads that will benefit over 3 000 young women from the Alfred Nzo Region. Seventy percent of the ticket sales will go towards buying sanitary pads,” explained Mawande.
“Above anything else, it was a social gathering which allowed fashion lovers to come together for a day, see the latest releases from those showcasing and mingle with fellow patrons over food and drinks,” he added.
