Blood and guts cause a stink in Lions Grove
More than 20 refuse bags containing chicken feathers, guts and goat skins had been dumped.
For residents of Sea View Road, Lions Grove, chicken feathers, chicken guts, goat skins and innards have not only made this beautiful area with a perfect sea view smelly and filthy, they have also attracted children from neighbouring Jesus Location, Bhobhoyi who collect the offal, probably to eat.

Illegal dumping in Lions Grove has been a problem for some time and, although residents and members of the Umbango River Conservancy have raised a stink about illegal dumping with Ray Nkonyeni Municipality on several occasions, illegal dumping continues.

Now residents of Sea View Road have to chase away children who pick up the rotten waste, trying to find something to eat.
“I am afraid those children might catch diseases from eating this rotten meat. I find it very disturbing how low some people can go to get rid of their waste by dumping it along the roadside. They don’t show any compassion for the environment and public. This dumping of dead livestock is a serious health risk to the community, especially children,” said a very angry resident.
More than 20 refuse bags containing chicken feathers, guts and goat skins had been dumped.

Another resident said the municipality didn’t take illegal dumping seriously. “Driving along our coast, there’s litter everywhere. Makes you wonder if there are people really employed under the municipality’s Community Services Department, because there is always litter every day of the week,” he said.
The municipality was asked for comment but none had been received before going to print.
