Positive changes at SPCA after recent sadness

Steps are being taken to improve the kennel blocks of the society for animal welfare.

Many exciting developments are taking place at the Lower South Coast SPCA.

Finally the ‘dog-tired’ adoption block is getting a complete overhaul – new drain pipes, screed floors, a new storeroom and a fresh lick of paint.

Michael Muller, manager of the Lower South Coast SPCA says once the adoption block is complete, work will begin to revamp the puppy, stray and boarding blocks and the cattery.

“It is due to a very generous donor that we have managed to afford to revamp these old buildings,” he added.

Mr Muller said that in the last few weeks the team had been working around the clock to tackle the distemper outbreak, and they believed they had the virus under control by implementing stricter rules.

He added the society welcomed new, experienced inspector Jacob Maduna to the team and kennel handler Richard Blose had been promoted to trainee field officer.

The society survives on public funding, so everyone is encouraged to support the potjiekos compo at Blue Waters Pub and Grill on Sunday, September 23. Don’t forget the charity shops located at the SPCA’s Uvongo premises, in Shelly Beach, Port Shepstone and at Sebenza Village in Ramsgate.
