There appears to be no end in sight for dry Harding, as water shortages continue unabated.
According to Ugu spokesman France Zama, the persistent high temperatures coupled with no rain has placed water supply systems under severe strain.

“Water levels in Harding dams have dropped significantly, which poses a serious threat to water supply in Harding and surrounding areas.
“The municipality has instituted strict water restrictions to ensure that the existing water supply sustains communities for a prolonged period until the arrival of significant rainfall,” Mr Zama said.
In the meantime, the municipality is providing water tankers from Port Shepstone to parts of the Harding area. This has, however, placed a substantial strain on municipal resources.
“Council, at its last sitting, resolved to institute due processes to declare Umuziwabantu a disaster area as outlined in the Disaster Management Act.
“While this process is under way, the municipality has embarked on a drought awareness campaign and will be engaging with all the key stakeholders in Harding and surrounding areas,” Mr Zama said.
The municipality has urged residents to ‘significantly adjust their water-consumption patterns’.
