Hibberdene Happenings: Lion Susan heads the Hibberdene pride

LION Susan Smuts-Steyn was inducted as president of Lions Club of Hibberdene for the 2018/2019 Lionistic year last Thursday, September 13.

Susan has been a Lion for many years and is well-versed in both the social and business side of running the club and is wished well in her new position.

She was inducted by Zone Chairman Alastair Warman of Port Shepstone Lions at a function held at the clinic. Snacks and refreshments were served afterwards.

Event postponed

Confusion reigns as your scribe received a message last Sunday that the ‘King of the Coast’ potjiekos competition, due to take place at the Blue Waters Pub and Grill next Sunday, has been postponed.

Plan ahead

Two confirmed events to look forward to are the Spring Fair on Friday and Saturday, October 5 and 6, and the Mtwalume flea and craft market on October 6. Hopefully both events will be held in bright sunshine, with no chance of rain.

The Spring Fair takes place on both days and Marie may be contacted at 082 2935757 for more information and bookings at R30 per day, which will go towards Lions’ funds. Tables are free of charge at the Mtwalume market.

This weekend

Two events to diarise for this weekend are the Hare Krishna enlightenment sessions at the Hibberdene Care Centre on Saturday (22nd) at 3pm. Entrance is free and all are welcome. Supper will be served. Contact Rajin Mahabeer at 082 8352758. Second event up is the Mizpah Church chicken braai after the service on Sunday morning. Chicken will be available for a small donation or you may take your own meat and a small salad. Edgar may be contacted at 084 5820772 for more information.

Hearty welcome

Newcomers to Hibberdene River Resort who are warmly welcomed are Marjory Hewitt and Louis Wienand. They are hoping to enjoy a more peaceful life than the one they had in Gauteng and are so far loving it. Good wishes are with those who are ill or troubled this week, may you feel better soon.

Three cheers

Birthday wishes this week go to Joan Warren and Nan Coetzee (23rd) and Karen Olivier (24th), while anniversary wishes go to Kathy and Carl van Heerden for 21st. Lastly readers are wished a restful long weekend and a very happy Heritage Day on Monday.
