Ugu District Municipality has condemned the abuse of its field workers by community members.
This follows a series of incidents in which workers have reportedly been verbally abused by frustrated residents over water pipe breaks or water leaks which have, in many instances, caused an interruption to supply.

According to a statement issued by Ugu, abuse of field staff will not be tolerated.
“Humanity and common sense suggest that Ugu employees, who themselves are very much acquainted with no access to basic services as a result of the past imbalances, do understand the frustration that this brings.
“However, under no circumstances will the municipality tolerate or condone abuse of staff by members of the public,” reads the statement.
Ugu also applauded its workers for not retaliating violently.
Ugu mayor, Mondli Chiliza and municipal manager DD Naidoo have advised staff not to resort to violence when faced with such abuse but rather to let the law take its course.
