Ray Nkonyeni Municipality has issued a stern warning on illegal electricity connections.
Municipal manager Max Mbili told reporters at a press briefing last week that a recent electricity meter audit by the municipality had shown an increase in electricity theft.

“We found a number of illegal connections from businesses as well as residents,” Mr Mbili said.
The culprits have been warned to refrain from illegal connections and tampering with electricity supply as this forces the municipality and honest residents to subsidise this stolen electricity.
“If you are guilty of electricity tampering, we encourage you to approach the municipality within the next three months in order for an agreement to be reached on individual settlements.”
After the three-month period has lapsed, the municipality has vowed to act harshly toward all culprits who have failed to come forward voluntarily, and they will face hefty fines as well as legal consequences.
