Hibberdene Happenings: Remember the fallen this Sunday
The public is warmly invited to attend the service at Mbango Valley.
LEST we forget … This coming Sunday marks Armistice or Remembrance Day, a day traditionally set aside to honour the dead in world wars and battles throughout the years. Local MOTHS will join in the service on the 11th day of the 11th month at the Mbango Valley hall at 10 for 10.30am. The public is warmly invited to attend the service.

Wasted water
Residents of Woodgrange-on-Sea, especially in the Cricklewood Road area, are becoming increasingly fed-up with a reservoir in the vicinity which seems to be continuously leaking water. This results in muddy roads and a lack of water in taps – four times in the last couple of weeks! It is causing great inconvenience to residents and yet nothing much seems to be done about it.
Good buys
Remember that the sale of pre-loved clothes, linen and kitchenware takes place at the clinic every Wednesday and some amazing bargains are to be found. Friendly Doris Sikosana will be on hand to see to all your requirements. And Lions’ Christmas cakes are still available, at the bargain price of R110 per cake. They can be bought at the clinic on any Wednesday morning or from Sham Jagaroo at Salon Marguerite.
Floral affair
The Methodist Church was a mass of flowers last Sunday morning when congregants heeded the call to decorate the church with floral arrangements in memory of loved ones gone before. It was a lovely, moving service, culminating in the celebration of holy communion.
Ditching dependence
Continuing its subject of talks on drug addiction and the dangers thereof, the Methodist men’s breakfast last Saturday featured Shaun Broli as guest speaker. Shaun concentrated on how easy it is to become reliant on drugs and the difficulty in giving up once addicted. He held the audience spellbound with his many tales.
Supper session
The Hare Krishna Society will hold an enlightenment session this Saturday, and in fact, every Saturday afternoon during the month of November. It takes place at the Hibberdene Care Centre at 3pm and all are most welcome to attend. Supper will be served and Rajen Mahabeer may be contacted at 082 8362758 for more information.
Pop in
Friends of the Methodist ‘Lady Bugs’ held their pre-Christmas celebration at ‘Folly’s Cuppa Coffee Shop’ last Thursday. The venue has recently changed hands and is reportedly planning on serving breakfasts on certain days of the week.
Lucky winners
The Lions’ lucky draw was held earlier in the week and the winners are: Tiago’s – Allan Abraham; Fifi’s Fresh Fish – Isabel Haughey; Salon Marguerite – Phyllis Michaelis; Jolly Roger Fun Pub – Liesl van der Colff; Hibberdene Pharmacy – Nora Swart and the Christmas cake – Russell Lockhart-Ross. Everyone is thanked for their ongoing support.
Family get-together
Irene and Bill Enkerwitz recently enjoyed a visit from their daughter Dominique and her husband Eugene Visser, who hail from Abu Dhabi. The couple left last week to spend some time with Eugene’s family in Rustenburg before returning to Abu Dhabi in time for the Grand Prix at the Yas Marina Circuit shortly. Dominique was the envy of many a male motor racing fan when she revealed that she lives a mere 20 minutes’ drive from the track and attends every year as a matter of course as Eugene is employed by BMW.
Chill the champagne
Belated golden wedding anniversary wishes to Annemarie and Pieter Swanepoel for last Friday (2nd), while birthday wishes for the week go to Clasmé Jacobsz for today (7th), Johan Els and Sue Thomas (9th), Alta Jordaan (10th), Parvathy Pillay (12th) and John Singleton of Club Marina (13th).
Happy Diwali
Today (Wednesday 7th) marks the festival of Diwali and Hindus are wished a very joyous, blessed and peaceful day, with many blessings throughout the day and year.
Thoughts and prayers
Lastly, please remember former resident Maureen Schwegman and her husband Colin in your thoughts and prayers. Maureen is not doing very well at the moment and in need of a lot of support.
Remember to keep Lizzie busy with all things Hibberdene.
