Armistice Day services are held annually to commemorate the end of World War I and the service of armed forces in all conflicts. Wreaths were laid and the Melody Makers gave fine renditions of wartime songs.

In November of 1918, the toll of World War I casualties had reached astronomical proportions. Under threat of countrywide rebellion, German forces sought a meeting with the allied forces to hammer out a peace treaty.

The treaty was made effective on November 11 at 11am, giving it the interesting historic distinction of being ratified at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.
