Umdoni appoints new municipal manager

The new municipal manager brings 22 years’ of experience in local government to the table.

Umdoni Municipality has appointed a municipal manager who has taken over after many months with no one at the helm. The former general manager of Ugu District Municipality, Dr Vuyiwe Tsako was appointed on November 1 and is said to have a range of senior management skills which will contribute to her role as the new municipal manager at Umdoni.

Controversy however struck earlier this year when municipal manager Dr Tsako resigned after her contract had been renewed at Ugu for another five years. She resigned a mere few weeks into her reappointment.

Dr Tsako resigned on April 26. Insiders at the time claimed her decision came after a fierce campaign against her leadership by union members. Earlier this year, the Mail’s sister newspaper, South Coast Herald, reported that members of the South African Municipal Workers’ Union had called for her contract not to be renewed, amid claims that she had been preventing the municipality from maintaining a good relationship with its workers.
