German bazaar provided lots of ‘oompah’

The bazaar has become a much-loved tradition on the South Coast.

The Evangelical Lutheran Church’s annual Christmas bazaar last Saturday was a resounding success, said organiser Helga Kuhn.

The bazaar is one of the South Coast’s biggest annual cultural events with lots to see and buy.

The food line-up alone was incredible, ranging from German cakes, potato fritters, ice cream, egg rolls, franks, to kassler and sauerkraut.

“Not only did it give shoppers a chance to do some early Christmas shopping, but it also successfully promoted small local businesses, many of whom claimed it was the most enjoyable bazaar they had taken part in,” said Ms Kuhn.

No self-respecting German bazaar would be complete without music and this was provided by the church’s oompah brass band.

“We received many compliments on the quality and variety of goods on offer, and this just goes to show how rich the talent and creativity is on the South Coast.”

She added it was also a wonderful experience to see the community support the event, and the atmosphere on the day she said was one of togetherness and family.
