Hibberdene Happenings: Display your number
A great deal of time can be wasted and frustration caused by searching for an ‘invisible’ number.
PAT Muuren, a resident of Woodgrange-on-Sea has reiterated an appeal made countless times before by security personnel, police and emergency services for homeowners to please display their street numbers in a conspicuous spot so that they may be easily seen in an emergency situation.

These pleas on the whole, seem to fall on deaf ears, and a great deal of time can be wasted and frustration caused by searching for an ‘invisible’ number. Pat, whose home is in Sedgewick Crescent in Woodgrange, is constantly being harassed by people seeking the addresses of all and sundry and even, in some cases, by deliverymen seeking an address where packages can be dropped off.
Be aware
And holidaymakers especially, but locals as well, are asked to keep an eye out for criminals on the prowl – there have been several burglaries of late and one can never be careful enough. Don’t trust anybody – neither in and around car parks, ATMs, in the streets – in fact, nowhere.
RIP Tony
It was with deep sorrow that your scribe learnt of the death of Tony Herholdt while she was away recently. Tony was a well-loved member of the community and will be sadly missed. Deepest sympathy is extended to his wife Colleen, family and friends.
Tragic news
The weather has been extreme over the last few days and many warnings have been issued. Your scribe has it on good authority that two boys were killed by lightning in rural Mtwalume last Thursday evening and this was indeed very sad.
Craft market
Your scribe is sorry that the ‘Carols by Candlelight’ service scheduled to follow the Mtwalume flea and craft market has been cancelled – it would have been a fitting finale to the day’s activities.
It is a great disappointment, but the market will proceed as scheduled this Saturday.
The pool area is very pretty and will add a great atmosphere to the market and there will be plethora of lovely ‘Christmassy’ gifts available to make your shopping that much easier. Tables will once again be free of charge, contact Sue at 082 4002616.
Breakfast break
Mizpah Church will not be having a men’s breakfast during December, but the breakfasts will recommence in the new year, at a time to be announced.
Safe travels
Schools officially break up for the summer holidays today, December 12, and pupils are wished an exciting and fun-filled break. Those travelling are wished safe journeys as are all travellers from inland, making the trek down to the coast.
Something afoot
Unfortunately your scribe’s husband, Steve had to spend the weekend in Hibiscus Private Hospital due to complications associated with his broken ankle.

He has been discharged, but is in a lot of pain, so please remember him in your thoughts and prayers. Please also remember Eric Smith, an old friend from Colenso, who has been living in Margate for many years and is not very well at all at present.
Happy birthday
Your scribe has once again no anniversaries to report this week, but best wishes go to her granddaughter Bridget, from Newcastle, who celebrates her 21st birthday today, (12th), while congratulations this week also go to Nicky Lilje (13th), Ronel Smit (14th), Elmarie Wandrag (16th), Susan Hechter (17th) and Mike Phungula, Phil Smal and your scribe (18th).
Back in January
As this is the final neighbourhood news for the year until the January 9 edition of the Bonus, your scribe would like to wish everyone a very blessed Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year, with safe travelling for those who will be on the roads over the festive season.
