Margate Moves: Take a guided walking tour

Tickets range between R10 and R50 on a cash basis only.

 

THE new Ramsgate Eco-Tourism office, in conjunction with the beach stewards, will be launching a Guided Walking Tour this Friday (14th), to raise funds for the Ramsgate Conservancy.

Visitors will learn about people and places such as The Crow’s Nest, Noel Quarry, Paul Buck, Daisy Bruty and more. The walk will take about 45 to 60 minutes, but the distance is not longer than 1km.

Refreshments will be served after the walk. Guided walks will be undertaken every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday starting at 10am and 2pm. Tickets range between R10 and R50 on a cash basis only.

Interested parties are asked to contact the Eco-Tourism Office at 066 297 3200 for more information or visit the office which is located next to the BP Service Station in Marine Drive, Ramsgate.

Swing with mayor

The mayor of Ray Nkonyeni Municipality Cynthia Mqwebu, is hoping for a full field of golfers to play in the annual Mayoral Golf Day at Margate Country Club this Friday (14th). It’s a fourball alliance format with two scores to count and is only open to golfers with official handicaps. Take note it’s a shotgun start at 11am and after golf there’s a cocktail party at the clubhouse. For more information and to book phone 039 3172340.

Another reminder

The Southbroom Ratepayers’ annual general meeting takes place at the golf clubhouse next Saturday (22nd), at 9am. The meeting will be followed by the property owners’ and community policing forum annual general meetings.

Another important AGM to note is that of the Southbroom Conservancy. It will also be held at the clubhouse and the date to save is January 5 starting at 9am.

Southbroom residents are reminded that Imbezane Drive will become a one-way over the holiday season from December 16 to January 3 from 6am to 6pm except on New Year’s Eve (31st) when it will apply for 24 hours.

Good music

Ramsgate’s iconic music venue Rocky Ridge has feast of fabulous entertainment on offer this weekend.

First up is `After Robot – The Sinners’ and `LA Cobra’ this Friday (14th), entry fee is R50. Gates and kitchen open at 6pm and the bands play from 8pm. Ashton Wheeler is the headliner this Saturday (15th). Entry is R50 per person and the gates and kitchen will open at 6pm. And Jacob’s Saw will be at Rocky Ridge on the 16th for Sunday Blues – no entry fee. Kitchen and gates open at 12pm and the music starts at 2pm.

Beach days

There’s a feast of fun in the sun at local beaches this holiday season. Get to the Island Tribe Beach Fest Ramsgate’s main beach this Friday (14th) until the 23rd. Tiago Beach Days kicks off at Margate this Monday (17th) and gets to Ramsgate on the 28th. Another fun event at Margate beach is the Midnight Splash Festival featuring top DJs from the 28th to 30th. And the big event-of-the-year – the annual Southbroom New Year’s Eve Party at the beach on the 31st.

Street party

Even though Mardi Gras means Fat Tuesday on the South Coast it means street party time every Wednesday during the holiday season. Marine Drive in Margate is transformed into a carnival-styled street party with vendors offering unusual wares and fabulous fair fare.

Sing along

Ramsgate Lions Club will hold its annual `Carols by Candlelight’ service at the Hibiscus Mall in Margate on the 20th from 6.30pm. Everyone is urged to take along a toy for Father Christmas to distribute to needy children.

Eyles Park (next to the tennis courts in Southbroom) is the venue for the Southbroom Conservancy’s annual `Carols by Candlelight’ service on the 23rd from 5.30pm. Winston Smile will lead the carol singing and it is `rumoured’ that Santa might pop in to sing along too. All are invited to the carol service at the Imbezane Mission Church in Bushy Vales on Sunday (23rd) from 6.30pm. The church is also collecting toys to be distributed to underprivileged children. Film fun

To get everyone in a Christmassy mood the Residents’ Activities Committee (RAC) will screen that traditional favourite `White Christmas’ starring Bing Crosby at its next movie afternoon. The venue is the Ronnie Baker Hall this Sunday (16th) and starting time is 2.30pm. Cost is R5 which includes tea/coffee and biscuits.
