Christmas concert raises funds to finish church

The congregation has presented a variety of musical offerings to raise funds.

Turning Point Ministries presented its pre-Christmas concert, ‘In Excelsis Deo’ to a full house in Marburg recently.

Music was provided by Elev8, Jason Duloo, (a multiple award-winning recording artist who has shared the stage with international music artists and Crystalene Nair (the singing sensation from Idols SA).

However, there is another reason for the church’s many concerts, and that’s the late Reverend Sam Owdbehari’s vision of completing the church building.

The late reverend’s daughter and concert organiser, Samantha Samlall said she was fortunate to have groups and individuals come and share their talents.

“During the course of this year we have presented a variety of musical offerings to raise funds to fulfill my dad’s dream of completing our church.”

Samantha said it was her father’s drive and determination which led to him hosting many fundraisers to build what is now known as Turning Point Ministries.

“He initially built a structure, his own design, using prefab fencing for the walls. This building still stands strong today. My father invested his own finances and with gifts and donations built Turning Point Ministries, a church which takes in many of the homeless, provides feeding schemes and outreach programmes.

“He opened Turning Point Ministries in 2015 even though the roof and floors were incomplete. It was his dream was to see this completed.”
