Police warn against opening false cases

A Gamalakhe woman was charged with defeating the ends of justice.

The lodging of a false case at the police station could land you in jail.

Recently a 34-year-old woman opened a case of common robbery at Gamalakhe police station where she stated that she had been robbed of her cellphone. Upon investigation, cellphone records revealed that she had used the same phone to contact her employer the day after the so-called robbery.

The woman was charged with defeating the ends of justice and fined R1 000 in the Ramsgate Court recently and now has a criminal record to boot.

Police spokesman, Captain Petros Mpinge warned the public against opening false cases as a considerable amount of time and state resources are wasted on investigating them.
