A retired school principal and well-respected South Coaster claims that Port Shepstone police are in cahoots with a woman involved in housebreaking and theft, adding that this woman wields ‘much power’ over the police.
The man, who asked not to be named, said that items had been unlawfully removed from his property in Umtentweni, which he had rented to a woman and her family.

When he went to the shed on the property last Friday, he found the door open and the lock and latch broken.
“I went inside and found all my furniture had been removed. When I looked towards the main house I saw some of my furniture outside. The tenant emerged from the house and said there had been a burglary. I took photos of my furniture and went to the police station to report the crime,” he said.
The next day he returned to install a new lock.
As he was leaving, he said, a van drove up and the driver and a passenger alighted and walked towards the house.
“I followed them and they were quickly pulled into the house. They later left. As I was leaving, I was met by a woman who asked if anyone was home.
“I said yes, and asked the woman what she wanted. She replied that she wanted to know when the furniture she had bought would be delivered,” he said.
“I asked her to point out the furniture, and to my surprise, she pointed to my furniture which had been removed from the shed. The tenant refused to come out of the house. It was only then that I realised that the van which I had seen earlier was probably there to load up my furniture for delivery to the ‘buyer’, who had apparently paid the tenant R1 000 for the goods. I then called the police.”
While the man waited for the police to arrive he received a call from the Port Shepstone police control room saying that a call about a public disturbance at the gate had been received from the tenant.
“When I asked why no vehicle had been dispatched to attend to my complaint, I was told that the police did come out and I was not at the scene. This was a blatant lie as I was standing by the roadside. This just showed me that this woman had more power.
“The woman who purchased my furniture was taken to the police station by my daughter to make a statement, while I remained at the house, still waiting for the police.”
The man added that to date no arrests had been made.
Responding to the complaint, police spokesman, Captain Petros Mpinge said there were two cases opened for investigation, one of theft and one of housebreaking.
“However, an internal investigation regarding the alleged delay in respect of the response by officers and the level of service will be instituted and necessary action will be taken after all parties involved have made submissions to the allegations,” he said.
