Oh deer!
A lucky bushbuck doe escaped certain death because a handful of caring Leisure Bay residents reacted very quickly to save her. Last Tuesday morning, resident Doret Venter contacted very involved local conservationist Jenny Koen and told her that there was a terrified buck trapped on the palisade fence across the road. Jenny and her husband Karel rushed down to the location to assist and found that the animal had tried to go through the fence, but its hindquarters could not fit through. The terrified doe was jumping all over the place, grazing her flanks. Jenny covered the buck’s head with a towel to help calm her while Karel compressed her ribs and pushed her body backwards. She was soon free and immediately bounded into the safety of nearby bushes. Well done to all those who helped in the rescue.
Alien invasion
Last Saturday a group of house-proud Trafalgar residents worked very hard to remove two alien plants from the entrance to their town. The one was a large agave (category 2) and a syringa (category 1b).

Peter Charlton and Dorothy McIntyre were there to make sure the ‘nips and tucks’ were done correctly. Residents are encouraged to keep their gardens indigenous as this becomes a healthy home for a myriad of indigenous birds and insects that need specific plants to fulfill natural tasks. For advice or queries, residents are welcome to contact Dorothy at 072 2191548.
