PENNINGTON resident and well-known dog trainer, Denise Adams (68) was recently defrauded to the tune of R1700.
The distraught pensioner has been left wondering how she will survive for the next month while authorities investigate how her Sassa card was apparently cloned.
Earlier this month, Denise was visiting friends in Gillits, and when she attempted to withdraw funds from her state pension from a post office, she found that she was unable to do so.
Irked, Denise approached a senior Sassa official who then escalated the matter to a manager. Denise was informed that her card had possibly been cloned.

According to feedback she has since received, the R1700 was withdrawn from an Absa ATM in Yeoville, Johannesburg.
She is now worried about how she will be able to pay her bills as well as purchase food for herself and her much-loved dogs.
According to Denise, in hindsight she realised that when she had received her new Sassa card, it had already been signed at the back.
The signature did not match her own.
Denise warned other Sassa cardholders to always be extra vigilant. She would also like to thank Scottburgh Saps for their amazing cooperation in assisting her with the case. Investigations are underway.
