UPDATE: Life terms for Gamalakhe double murderers

The gruesome discovery was made after a woman reported a bad smell coming from her neighbour's house.

Two men who drugged and strangled to death Doris Ntozakhe (70) and her son, Sfiso (34) have each been sentenced to two life terms for murder and 15 years for robbery.

The mother and son were killed at their Walter Sisulu Road home in Gamalakhe last month.

Thabani Lushaba (24) was sentenced in the Pietermaritzburg High Court last Thursday while Samkelo Bhengu (23) was sentenced yesterday (Wednesday).

Both were known to the mother and son and pleaded guilty to the charges.

A third suspect who had been arrested with Sfiso’s car in Richards Bay is yet to make a court appearance.

The gruesome discovery was made after a woman reported a bad smell coming from her neighbour’s house.

Phone calls to the occupants, she said, had also gone unanswered.

When police arrived, they discovered that the premises were secured, and the main gate locked. All doors and windows were closed.

When police had searched around the house, they noticed flies inside the bathroom.

The door was forced open and the two slightly decomposed bodies were found.

A rope was found around Sfiso’s neck.

A car which had been parked in the yard, as well as a TV, sound system and bank cards were missing.

Gamalakhe community members praised the detectives who handled the case for their hard work in ensuring that the suspects were brought to book.
