Runner stumbles on human skeleton

The remains were taken for forensic analysis.

A pair of rubber boots and a T-shirt convinced local runner, Morgan Moodley that he had stumbled across human bones.

Three weeks ago Mr Moodley from Port Shepstone was running along Sugar Mill Road in Albersville when he wandered off course in search of plants as he has a curated selection of bonsai trees.

He found more than he bargained for on the morning of Wednesday, February 27 when he came across a human skeleton.

“I was on my way to meet a friend and took a short-cut to find some plants. As I was looking through the bushes I saw a pair of rubber boots and then a skull.

“I thought the skull was that of a dead animal or something, but then I saw more bones and a T-shirt and realised that it was a human skeleton. My friend and I contacted the police,” said Mr Moodley.

Police spokesman, Captain Petros Mpinge said an inquest docket has been opened.

“The circumstances surrounding the death are unknown at this stage. The remains will be sent for forensic analysis.”

Mr Moodley said he hoped that police and forensic experts would be able to identify the person and help bring closure to a family searching for a missing loved one.
