Police were quick to arrest two minors and a 19-year-old for malicious damage to property. Police spokesman, Captain Petros Mpinge said several cases had been opened, including one of burglary.

“Extensive damage was caused to windows and glass doors. A store dealing in fishing goods was burgled. A 19-year-old suspect remains in police custody while the two minors were released into the custody of their parents.”

All three appeared in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s court on Tuesday this week and the case was postponed for further investigation.

Stabbing

A man was stabbed to death at a mall in Margate last Saturday night. Police were patrolling when they saw two men running away and another lying on the ground near the entrance to the mall.

“He had been stabbed in the upper body and was declared dead by paramedics. The man is yet to be identified.”

House robbery

A Port Edward family living in Nicholson Road was awakened by the sound of their dogs barking in the early hours of last Thursday.

According to Captain Mpinge, when one of the residents went to investigate, he found three intruders in the lounge.

“He tussled with one while the other two went to the bedrooms, demanding money while threatening the family with firearms and knives.

“All three intruders fled, taking with them several household items. The man who had attempted to apprehend one of the intruders suffered slight injuries to his left arm and shoulder,” said Capt Mpinge.

Port Edward police, assisted by the Dog Unit, arrested one suspect in the Braemer area. His two alleged accomplices managed to escape, but police expect to make further arrests soon. All the stolen property was recovered.

“On Monday this week a vehicle belonging to Mr Mbanjwa was recovered at a panelbeating shop in Marburg. It appears that the vehicle was towed from Shelly Beach after it had smashed into a tree. Police are investigating who was driving at the time of the accident, and blood stains found in the vehicle will be sent for forensic analysis,” said Capt Mpinge.

Fraud

A Port Shepstone businessman (58) received sms alerts informing him of bank transactions taking place of which he was not aware. He found that a substantial sum of money had been transferred from a business account to another, unknown, account. A fraud case has been opened and investigations are continuing.
