Much of the tar has washed away, making it extremely difficult for motorists to negotiate.
Ray Nkonyeni Municipality (RNM) spokesman, Simon April said the municipality had conducted an audit of the damage.
“It should be noted that these damages were a result of unforeseen events, hence the municipality has written to the provincial government to request funding to fix all the damaged infrastructure.

“In fact RNM council declared the Ray Nkonyeni Municipal area a disaster area to ensure that national government assists where possible,” said Mr April.
He added that while waiting for a response, the municipality would be attempting to at least make the most heavily damaged roads usable, with the aim of having them properly repaired in the medium to long term.
“Above all the municipality would like to plead with road users to be cautious when using these damaged roads.”
Sugar Mill Road
RNM chief whip, Selvan Chetty last Sunday spent time making sure that a damaged section of Sugar Mill Road was repaired to ensure the community’s safety.
The Herald received reports that a section of the road near the Illovo Sugar Mill in Lower Albersville was closed.

Cllr Chetty and trucking and plant hire company, Imvusa Trading worked tirelessly, and at no charge, to make it safe for passing traffic.
The road was reopened at 4pm.
“I would like to express my thanks to Gona Naidoo and to the management of Illovo Sugar Mill for their contribution of diesel for this operation,” said Mr Chetty.
