Man murdered over meat at Youth Day braai

A man was braaing with friends when a fight broke out.

A Youth Day braai ended in murder when an argument over meat spilled over in to violence.

A fight broke out in Madakane Ward, Murchison last Sunday afternoon when a 27-year-old man braaing with friends was approached by another man (25) who demanded some of the meat.

“When the braaier refused, the man drew a knife and stabbed him several times in the upper body, ” said police spokesman, Captain Petros Mpinge.

“He was taken to hospital where he later died.”

A second man was stabbed twice in the head and has been hospitalised.

Arrested

Police arrested the suspect at Murchison and he appeared in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court yesterday (Wednesday).

He is facing charges of murder and attempted murder.

The case was postponed for further investigation.

Ugu Cluster Commander, Major General Sethenya Nxamagele commended Port Shepstone Crime Prevention officers for their swift response.
