Sister Eureka Thompson, the hospital wellness manager, encouraged staff to undertake regular exercise, avoid smoking and maintain a healthy weight.

Phumza Morai, the hospital PRO said cholesterol is present in every cell of the body. However, if it is in high concentrations, it becomes a silent killer that puts people at risk of a heart attack.

“People generally do not feel sick when they have high cholesterol until something severe happens, hence check-ups should be done regularly to maintain good health,” she advised.

Ms Morai encouraged the public to visit their local clinics for a regular cholesterol check-up at least once a year. Those who are on treatment are urged to undergo a check-up twice a year.
