The South Coast played host to some major musical events over the past weekend which drew a large number of patrons and holidaymakers.
With this large influx of people, it was necessary for law enforcement officials to ensure the safety of everyone on the roads. The KZN Department of Transport (DOT) in conjunction with Saps and law enforcement agencies held roadblocks from last Friday through to Sunday at strategic points throughout the region.

Some 2500 vehicles were stopped by officers and 85 motorists were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Police spokesman, Captain Petros Mpinge said the 85 people who were arrested for drunken driving, were charged and given bail to appear in court on these charges.
The highest reading taken over the weekend was 1,14 mg/1000ml.
The Acting Cluster Commander of Ugu Cluster Saps, Brigadier Bongani Sibiya welcomed these arrests and warned road users to abide by the laws as those contravening it will be prosecuted.
In April, 117 motorists were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. These offenders are due to appear in court soon once the court has received the blood test reports.
