Sheppie Snippets: Temples to hold prayer
The annual Mariamman prayer will be held this Sunday.
One of the grandest festivals of the South Indian community is the Mariamman prayer. The Tamil meaning of the word Mari means ‘rain’ and Amman means ‘mother’. She was worshipped by the ancient Tamils as it was believed she brought rain to them.
The Umbango Sri Siva Soobramaniar Alayam invites all to its annual Mariamman prayer (porridge prayer) from July 19 to July 21.
Flag hoisting will be held on Friday, July 19 at 5.30pm thereafter bhajans in praise of divine Mother Sathi will be rendered.
On Saturday, July 20 the temple will host their annual Ganga Amman prayer, hawan will start at 12.30pm thereafter proceeding to My Den in Oslo Beach.
On Sunday, July 21 the temple will host their annual Mariamman prayer with hawan starting at 8am thereafter bhajans will be rendered. Lunch will be served. All are welcome to attend. Prayer
The Umzimkuluwana Temple will host its annual Mariamman prayer this Sunday, July 14 at the temple at 7.30am. All are welcome. For further information contact Devan Govender at 079 5920490.
Prayer and AGM
The Shree Hanuman Sanathan Dharma Sabha Mandir will host its annual Guru Purnima at the temple on July 16 at 6pm. The temple will also hold its annual general meeting at the temple hall on July 20 at 3pm. All are welcome. For further information contact Veena at 067 0688282.
Diabetes day
The Hibiscus Hospital in Port Shepstone will host a diabetes open day at the hospital on Saturday, July 27. It is scheduled to take place from 9am to 2pm.
There will be various talks, as well as information tables where people can find out more about foot health, the use of oral medication and how best to use insulin.
Prayer
The Shree Raam Narayan Mandir will host its annual Ganga Pooja at My Den, Oslo Beach on Saturday, July 27 at 2pm. Sa Re Ga Ma Music School and Prema Jyothi Seva Sungam will do bhajans. Prasad and supper will be served. The Mandir will also observe Pancho Pooja the next day, Sunday, July 28 at the Mandir from 7.30am. Enjoy a session of bhajans and kirtans by Arthi Nagara from Durban. Officiating priest will be Pundit Misra. For further information contact Singh Samsunder at 083 3008382.
