Umzumbe councillor Janet Radebe dies

A councillor at Umzumbe Municipality has died.

Janet Thembi Radebe (68), the sole DA councillor at the municipality, died on Wednesday last week after an illness.

DA Ugu deputy chairman Leonard Ngcobo said the DA would remember her for her friendly smile, her calmness and her hard work.

According to Cllr Ngcobo, the DA had lost a great public servant who was not only a DA activist but also cared for her community.

“She worked very hard and we are deeply hurt by her passing. We would like to send condolences to her family, friends and colleagues,” he said.

Umzumbe Municipality spokesman Sabelo Ncwane confirmed the news.

“The municipality and the council send heartfelt condolences to her family, her political party and fellow councillors,” he said.

Ms Radebe’s brother, Derick Radebe said a memorial service would be held at Sibanini Hall today (Thursday) at 10am, adding that funeral arrangements had been made for tomorrow (Friday).
