The course was presented by Africa Cares for Life.

Equipped to Serve is a learning experience designed to help people care for those who are hurting or going through a crisis.

About 20 people attended the four-day Christian-based crisis counselling training course, held at the AFM Church in Shelly Beach.

The course covered the fundamentals of ministering to those in crisis, namely speak the truth in love; identifying a person; five communication skills; steps to crisis intervention; ministry versus manipulation; qualities of an effective helper; six phases of a crisis and evangelism in counselling.

Those who completed the Pregnancy Centre crisis counselling training received certificates, presented by officials from Africa Cares for Life.

Project manager Cisca van Zyl said the training course was a huge success.

“We now have counsellors from Ramsgate to Umtentweni and inland to Harding who are equipped to deal and handle a crisis.”

The next training session will be held at the AFM Church in Shelly Beach on September 3 and 4 and another on September 16 and 17.
