The team from Absolute Pets painted signs, walked the dogs and spent time with the animals at the shelter for most of the day on Thursday.

Michael Muller said they have been struggling to make ends meet since he had to step into Terence Olivier’s boots, and this past week has been extremely strenuous where they would have run out of cat food if it wasn’t for the generous donation from the Shelly Beach Lions.

Mr Muller and his staff are currently caring for 90 rescue cats and 21 dogs.

He said the dogs up for adoption are ‘special needs’ dogs looking for forever homes.

The community is urged to support the charity shop and ‘Barking Barber’ grooming parlour which has recently opened at the Southport Garden Centre.
