Hibberdene Happenings: Lion Brian leads the pride

Outgoing president Susan Smuts-Steyn will take over as secretary/treasurer.

NEWS items are far and few between this week. Please keep your scribe abreast of any happenings she may not be aware of.

Lion Brian Porteous was inducted as president of the Lions Club of Hibberdene at a formal gathering held at the clubhouse last week, with Susan Smuts-Steyn taking over as secretary/treasurer.

Lion Dave Cousins, past district governor of District 41013 performed the inauguration ceremony and a happy crowd gathered afterwards to wish Brian well.

He is wished everything of the best for his term in office.

Your scribe sincerely apologises to the family of Alex Galbraith, who died recently and whose service was held last week. She inadvertently wished Alex a happy birthday last week, unaware that he had already succumbed to his illness.

Alex was a hard-working member of the MOTHs and will be missed by many. Deepest sympathy is extended to his wife Janet, family members and friends.

The market will be held on Saturday, July 27, from 9am nd, as usual, will be held alongside the pool at Koelwaters Resort.

It is time to start stocking up on Christmas gifts, so why not visit the market and start your shopping early? Sue and her helpers have a camp cot donated by Andy and Dianna Els which, together with some beautiful handmade blankets, will be handed over to a worthy cause on the day of the market. Make sure you are there. Andy will be entertaining as usual with his special brand of music.

Your scribe had a quick ‘look-see’ around Hibberdene’s flood damaged roads recently and found that, while the access road to Leisuredene remains the same, the large crater in Miami Road appears to have been repaired to a degree and is no longer a gaping hole. Thanks to those responsible for the repairs.

Get well soon

Rose Howse has been discharged from hospital after her fall last weekend and is continuing her good work of feeding stray cats in her area. Look after yourself, Rose. Marjory Hewitt broke her hip in a recent fall and underwent replacement surgery at Port Shepstone Regional Hospital on Monday this week. She is wished well for a complete recovery.

Celebrating birthdays are Linda Kent (18th), Connie Olwage (19th) and Renuka Lalsing, Rudi Kotze and André van Rensburg (22nd), while Sham and Roy Jagaroo and Jessie and Nelson James have anniversaries on July 18.

Remember to do your bit for Mandela Day tomorrow, July 18. Every little bit helps and will be gratefully received. And don’t forget to keep Lizzie busy with Hibberdene news and snippets.
