Tweni Talk: Feedback from authorities would be welcomed

Recent flood damage must be attended to urgently before roads deteriorate any further.

WHAT will it take to get Ray Nkonyeni Municipality (RNM) and the roads department to do something about the state of roads  in the Old St Faiths Road area after the floods? An extremely dangerous sinkhole appeared near Mgazi Avenue last weekend. Apparently it has been worked on, but it was left unfilled and is still dangerous for drivers.

Were inspections ever done? Is there a plan of action? What number is Umtentweni on the list? Constructive feedback from authorities would be good.

The driveway to Royston Hall took a serious beating in the floods and a fair section of the mountain on the left of the old house slid down to the river.

Restoration to shore up the bank has begun and heavy duty poles have been sunk down to the rock, so that the land can be filled in again.

A very excited Ria Hackland will soon be able to welcome her guests after a smooth drive down the newly-completed filled and tarred driveway.

Tweni Beach kiosk closed its shutters last weekend and beach visitors need to take their own refreshments, ice and food in future. Hopefully RNM can find new tenants before the next holidays in September.

Cleaning up

A huge thank you to Liz Foster of Muddy Boots Nursery for clearing the entrance to Umtentweni, as well as the area near the library.

Abingdon Spar’s management have stated that they will also do their bit towards cleaning up the area around the shopping centre, which is very much needed, especially the park area below Jaxx Restaurant.

Of course in a perfect world, the public would not litter in the first place. Not all the litter is generated by people who shop at the centre – some residents have been seen dumping bags of refuse near the library.

Perhaps a name and shame board would be a good deterrent to put a stop to this practice.

Good luck

The National Spearfishing Championships take place in Durban this week and representing Southern KZN is a great team.

Umtentweni and the rest of the South Coast will be rooting for the Southern KZN team comprising (from left) Wikus Labotski, Renier Kruger, Matthew Hunt, Johan Boshoff, Carl Werner, Don Solomon, Jonathan Geyer and Jaco Bonthuys at the National Spearfishing Championships this week.

Wikus Labotski, Renier Kruger, Matthew Hunt, Johan Boshoff, Carl Werner, Don Solomon, Jonathan Geyer and Jaco Bonthuys want to thank everyone who has helped get them to this event, whether it was buying a raffle ticket or making a donation.
