WATCH: Strong winds and dry conditions keep firemen busy
Firemen and women are working hard to get the fires under control.

Ray Nkonyeni Fire and Rescue personnel were forced to fight raging bush fires from Trafalgar in the south to Umtwentweni in the north today (Wednesday).

Battling howling winds, the men and women worked hard to get the bush fires under control and preventing them from spreading.

Spokesman for Ray Nkonyeni Municipality, Simon April said there were a number of uncontrolled fires which had the potential to cause enormous damage to property or even to lives.
“This stern warning goes to smokers not to throw away cigarette butts which are not propery extinguished as these have great potential to start fires. We further warn smoking drivers not to throw their cigarette butts out of vehicle windows as a single burning butt can wreak havoc on people’s lives and cause significant damage to property or even cause accidents due to poor visibility on the roads,” Mr April.
Members of the public are encouraged to report any smouldering fires or uncontrolled blazes fires to the Emergency Control Centre at 039 6825555.
