An extremely elderly woman walked from her home to be at the party and Stephanie was amazed to discover that Florence Cele will celebrate her 103rd birthday in September.

Club gatherings
Port Edward Bowling Club held a fun music quiz last week. Teams of four pitted their music knowledge of the 60s against each other.
Quizmaster John Simons-Meyer kept a tight rein on some of the ‘unruly competitors’. Members and guests enjoyed the fun evening and delicious home-made soup and bread.

The ‘Coffin Dodgers’ of Port Edward Country Club meet every Tuesday morning to enjoy a ‘casual yet competitive’ round of golf.
Last week 19 players vied for the monthly trophy, which was won by Peter Howarth on 38 points.

Steve Maynard and Karl Beck also scored 38, but Peter won on a count-out. Tom Bainbridge placed fourth with 34 points.
Honouring Madiba
Port Edward Library hosted pupils from Lighthouse School for stories and activities in celebration of Mandela Day last Thursday.
After colouring in a picture of Madiba, each child received a library bag, a lucky packet, juice, chips and bookmarks. Great fun was had by all.
Fun in the sun
Port Edward Country Club was bustling last weekend. Stalls were set up in the sunshine all around the ninth hole for a fun market day.
There was a variety of delicious food on sale, as well as crafts, bric a brac and plants and the jumping castle was a great hit with the children.

The market was spearheaded by the manager of the farm stall Jolene Hooper, ably assisted by club manager Carla Hart.
It was a great success and hopefully there will be another market very soon at this delightful venue.

South Coasters have had a little taste of the change in seasons. Last Saturday there was a howling gale that broke tree branches, blew roofs and fascia boards off and deposited vast amounts of dust and dead leaves all over the place. August is notoriously a windy month, so be prepared!
All news to Philippa.
