Hibberdene Happenings: Pop in to the market or visit the bazaar

Disused postboxes at the beach are looking quite ghastly - rusted with no roofs, broken or damaged hinges and in a general state of disrepair.

REMEMBER the Mtwalume flea and craft market at Koelwaters Resort this coming Saturday (27th) from 9am.

A lovely camp cot, donated by Andy and Dianna Els, will be handed over together with some gorgeous homemade blankets to a worthy cause during the morning’s proceedings.

Be sure to attend and enjoy a morning of bargains, fun and food.

Contact Sue at 039 9721425 or 082 4002616 to arrange for a table free of charge.

And, should you be heading in the opposite direction, pop in at the German bazaar at the Bethanien Lutheran Church in Izotsha.

The bazaar is always great fun and something of an institution in the area – with plenty of food, divine cake, meat, German music and a beer tent.

The event kicks off at 9am and continues throughout the better part of the day.

Happy reunions

Tom and Linda Kent of Mtwalume were blessed to have their son Paul from Reading, UK, visit them for three weeks recently.

An avid nature lover, he was treated to visits to Lake Eland, the vulture ‘restaurant’ at Oribi and TC Robertson Nature Reserve in Scottburgh.

Paul thoroughly enjoyed his visit, as did Linda and Tom.

And Debbie Fletcher will be on the move for the next three weeks, with planned visits to her three sons living abroad.

Her first stop will be Essex in the UK, where she will spend time with Dylan, his wife Michelle and their two little girls Dani and Rachel.

Surrey will be next on her itinerary with a visit to Linton, his wife Charlotte and their new baby boy Isaac, followed by a trip to Dubai to spend time with Warren and his fiancee Jana.

She is wished a wonderful holiday and safe travelling.

Early birds
In spite of last Saturday’s cold weather, Mizpah Church’s breakfast was well attended last Saturday.

They were rewarded with an inspiring talk by a man known only as ‘Churchill’, who spoke of his deep involvement with religion and his many, varied life experiences.

The next breakfast takes place on August 17th.

Good wishes
Margie Hewitt remains in hospital after her hip operation, but is, from all accounts, making good progress. She is wished well, as is all others on the sick list.

Together with Gladys Spruew, who celebrates her birthday on July 24, two ‘grand dames’ of the area celebrate important birthdays this week.

Jeanette Swanepoel of Mtwalume turns 80 tomorrow (25th) and Anna Annandale celebrates her 86th birthday the following day (26th).

Also having birthdays during the week are Petra Greyvenstein and Pierre Rautenbach (29th) and Candice Vermeulen and Tobie Bekker (30th).

Take note
August’s eye clinic will be held on Wednesday 21st, from 12 noon onwards and booking may be made at the supplied number or 073 1653961.

Sincere thanks is extended for the packets of bread sealers received recently and your scribe is always on the lookout for more.

Without sounding ungrateful, please note that the collection is only for bread sealers and not can ‘pull-rings’ and other plastic items sometimes found in the bags.

Sorry state

Disused postboxes at the beach are looking quite ghastly – rusted with no roofs, broken or damaged hinges and in a general state of disrepair.

Can something not be done about this eyesore?

And in Woodgrange, on one street alone, there are six different ANC posters urging people to register on March 5 and 6, 2016 (!) for local elections. Really, after almost four years?

Your scribe was lucky enough to win a bottle of Martini in the recent Blue Waters Pub and Grill’s raffle for South Coast Hospice.

The afternoon was not without incident however, as she inadvertently left Steve’s camera behind. Sincere thanks to the staff member who held it in safekeeping until she was able to collect it.

Remember to keep Lizzie busy with all things Hibberdene.
