Thanks to her sterling efforts the monthly supper theatre offerings at the village have been sold-out events.

Dubbed Flora McDonald (by Herald scribe Rob Fidler) for her delightful Scots’ accent she was always scouting for new talent and she has given many local artists a platform on which to perform. Liz went to great lengths to ensure that the audience was always happy and all the `stars of the show’ were happy to make return visits.

Liz and her late husband Jim moved to South Africa in 1969 and she always declared it was the best decision they had ever made. They moved to the South Coast after buying the Sunlawns Hotel in Margate in the late 80s. The bingo afternoons at the hotel were legendary.

After Jim died Liz sold the hotel and moved into the village and it wasn’t long before her organising skills were recognised and she was seconded onto the RAC.

She had enjoyed a mini-break in Scottburgh last week and took ill on her return. She was rushed to hospital on Monday, bad sadly died on Tuesday evening.

Funeral arrangements had not been finalised at the time of going to press.

Rest in peace, dear Liz and thank you for the music you brought to Margate.
