Tweni Talk: Cleaning staff need their own safe space

Their clothes were eventually found in the bush, but handbags and purses were not recovered. Even the door lock and spare toilet rolls were missing.

ACTION is required at Tweni beach’s ablution block. Beach cleaners use the disabled toilet stall as a changing/locker room, which is not a good idea for visitors who need to use the facility.

Mike Davies reported that at about 4:40pm last Friday, when the cleaners went back to the change room, they found that all their stuff had gone.

Their clothes were eventually found in the bush, but handbags and purses were not recovered. Even the door lock and spare toilet rolls were missing.

Ray Nkonyeni Municipality needs to provide cleaners with a dedicated room for changing and for storing toilet paper and cleaning materials.

Also, it would be wise to employ a 24-hour security company to protect the area, especially since the kiosk is not in use.

A huge thank you to Andrew de Witt of Umtentweni for personally replacing the missing lock.

Troubling incident

Reports of a man lying in the grass on the side of Old St Faith’s Road were received last Saturday morning.

The man complained he could not walk because of a sore leg. He was also reportedly extremely intoxicated, posing a danger to himself and oncoming vehicles.

Later that afternoon, it was determined that the man actually had a broken leg and an ambulance was called.

It was all rather confusing, because nobody is sure how he came to be in that condition.

Was he wandering around drunk and somehow got knocked over by a vehicle? Or did he fall into a pothole?

Thanks to everyone who took the time to investigate and finally call for help.

Lucky find

Thanks to Mae Vorster for making contact on July 19 after finding a handbag belonging to Eva Metcalf.

The bag was stolen during a robbery outside her property on July 16 and thrown into the thorn bushes.

She was able to identify the owner of the bag after finding some bank cards inside.
