Small step, then giant leap for Colin
Highlight of the day was Steve Watts' 44 points but unfortunately his drawn partner suffered a meltdown... not named to protect his blushes.
IT was a week at Scottburgh Golf Club when we celebrated the 50th anniversary of the historic moon landings.
Those of us lucky enough to have watched it all on TV will never forget the experience.

“One small step for man, etc” was in Colin Moodie’s mind as last week he finished runner-up and last week on Wednesday he took the “one giant leap” into the winners’ circle as he and Jeanette Watts were drawn together in the combined drawn Stableford competition, winning with 71 points.
Second, both scoring the same points, were John Mills and Brian Richards who in turn edged out Tony Power and Hans Beuthe both on 66.

Pete Morris partnered Graham Brown to the captain’s table to test the weight of the Stone.
Around 40 people sat down to supper on Friday night – it looks like the golf club is the place to be for good vibes and good food.
All locals are cordially invited to come along the menu is available from Wednesday onward for bookings.
On Saturday the ladies played for the Lady Presidents trophy in a howling sou’wester that ruined many a scorecard.
Lifting the trophy was Lauren Davey with 33 points followed closely by Jeanette Watts and Debbie du Toit.
During the week our ladies played in the South Coast Open and Closed tournament held at Selborne.
Linda Hall was the best of the bunch as she was unluckily counted out for the runner-up position in the bronze division in the closed section.
Linda then accompanied Dolores McAuliffe in the Natalia4dames tournament and beat Southbroom – they now go forward to the next round to be played at Amamzintoti.
The men were sponsored by Colin Moodie, Jean Thomassen and Rupert Jones who all celebrated their birthdays last week.
Steve Watts – playing some great golf of late – combined with Gary Jones in somewhat blustery conditions to win with 44 points.
The two past captains Brett Rowe and Shaun Jenkins must enjoy the wind as they came second with 39 to edge out Russel Freeman and Clyde Leisegang into third place on a count-out.
Newton’s third law, which states “that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction” came true for vice-President Colin Moodie as he and President Ian Walker came up to the table to hoist our Stone – Colin of course winning on Wednesday.
Good luck (and you’ll need it) to those going up to play a team at Underberg next weekend.
Take plenty of warm jackets and a bottle or three of your favourite tipple.
Flyer’s footnote: Listening to the talk in the bar I’ve never yet heard of any golfer who did not on the w(hole) consider himself a rather unlucky one.
